Gynecology

Gynecology is the specialty of medicine that focuses on issues specific to women and girls, especially the female reproductive system. We evaluate, diagnose, and treat a wide variety of gynecologic conditions that affect women throughout their lives, from adolescence through menopause. These can include menstrual abnormalities and abnormal bleeding, pelvic pain, ovarian cysts including polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), fibroids, endometriosis, infertility, vaginal discharge, urinary tract infections, abnormal pap smears, menopausal symptoms, premenstrual syndrome (PMS), and sexually transmitted diseases (STDs).

Laparoscopic Surgery

We specialize in laparoscopic surgery, a minimally-invasive technique that utilizes a camera/scope to look inside the belly through a tiny incision (less than 1/4 inch). Two additional tiny incisions are made in the belly to insert surgical tools to perform the procedure. This approach can even be used to perform a hysterectomy (remove the uterus). This technique minimizes post-operative pain and shortens recovery time.

Contraception (Birth Control)

We offer all forms of contraception (birth control) including IUDs (Liletta®, Mirena®, Kyleena®, Skyla®, Paragard®), implant (Nexplanon®), the pill, the patch, NuvaRing®, and Depo-Provera.  We also offer permanent birth control in which the fallopian tubes are either tied or removed.

Well-Woman Exams

The well-woman visit is a preventive visit recommended annually and provides an opportunity for women to receive services that promote their overall health and well-being. The well-woman visit typically includes a review of history, physical exam including breast and pelvic exam, health screening such as breast cancer screening or cervical cancer screening (pap), and counseling regarding health promotion and disease prevention. Because these visits are preventive, most insurances cover the cost of this exam in full.

Adolescent Health

We also provide care for teens and young women. The first gynecologic visit is an important opportunity to openly discuss issues or concerns regarding everything from bodily changes and development in puberty to birth control, relationships, sexuality and everything in between. We provide education and guidance to empower young women about their bodies and reproductive health. Most of the time, this first visit consists of just talking and answering your questions. Most young women do not need to have a pelvic exam at this visit unless they are experiencing problems such as abnormal bleeding or pain.

Labs and Imaging

Laboratory tests use blood or urine to analyze and evaluate your health. For most blood tests, we draw blood in the office at the time of your visit.

Ultrasound is an imaging method that uses sound waves to visualize the reproductive system and can be used to evaluate many gynecologic conditions. We are able to perform gynecologic ultrasounds in the office at the time of your visit.
